LADWP replaced five 55-foot power poles near the vicinity of N Beachwood Dr and Westshire Dr.
The poles were located to the rear of properties and along hard to access hillsides. LADWP used a Helicopter to perform this work. For safety reasons, LADWP asked a few homeowners who live in the project area to vacate their homes for approx. 6 hours while the work was taking place; the helicopter work could not be performed if there were residents in the helicopter’s flight path, and the scheduled improvements would then have to be rescheduled for a later date.
This was considered an emergency project that replaced older poles that were installed in the 1940s and was performed in order to increase fire safety, improve power system reliability and bring the system in that area up to current codes. It is also part of a larger and ongoing effort to replace more poles in Beachwood Canyon area. The installation of these five poles was performed on Wednesday September 28th by helicopter.
