Livable California has been following Sacramento housing politics and here are some of the take away positions.
• SB 9 and 10 are BAD bills promoted by Sen Wiener and Atkins. One seeks to erase single family zoning (8 units on a lot) while the other seeks to overturn local voter-won initiatives.
• This is an assault on single family zoning and a State assault on local control, local ecological issues (such as yours)
• NOTHING in these bills addresses affordable housing or homelessness.
• They are funded and supported by large scale apartment owners and developers hiding behind YIMBY organizations
• The “buzz” in San Francisco is that single family zoning makes it impossible for downtown tech workers to find housing. It has poisoned us down here.
• There are genuine solutions for homelessness and housing pricing—AND THIS IS NOT IT.
• Senator Porcantino keeps trying to put in GOOD Bills and is outraised
• Cities across California see this power grab for what it is. Help your neighbors. The lobbying money that has poisoned and corrupted us here figured out they can go as well or better in Sacramento.
