Lack of Supervision and Training of Gate Guards

Security Guards Messaging:  training and maps required:  There was a time when the security guards directed everyone to the Observatory and even gave out a map.  This needs immediate corrective action from RAP and the protocol needs to be consistent from guard to guard.  Currently, when asked the best place to take a picture of the sign – “turn around (by making an illegal U-turn at BW/HR intersection) turn right on Ledgewood, etc” to get to illegal VISTA.

Security Guards interaction with people

  • their voices carry
  • their running engines annoy
  • the sound from their radios and phones is far too loud.
  • sometimes they sit in their folding chair and holler to a person in a car
  • This is residential zone:  residents are entitled to peace and quiet

Security hours – their hours have changed.  For some time now, they leave at 5:30PM.  If the trilogy lock on the pedestrian gate were locked at that time, this would be less of an issue than it is when it is left open.  With the longer daylight hours and summer just around the corner (more people will come for the “sunset” surge) – the security hours need to be readjusted.  Someone from the City should be there to inform the people that the PARK IS CLOSED at this gate.  Currently this duty is left to the residents in the gate-adjacent house.  There are two houses adjacent.  One is selling.  The other is left with this mess.

People go around the fence after hours.  The lock is set for 7 PM.  At this time, security personnel are absent.  People trespass as follows:

  • trespass around fence or
  • wait for a car to open gate and run through or
  • wait for a pedestrian to exit and hold the door open for them.

Security should be there until 8 PM to manage this properly per above.

In addition, the whole operation looks like a mess:  it looks like something tossed together by non-professionals for some weekend event — and it has been this way for over a year now.

How much have we spent on this gate guarding?
