• PPD Update

Council District 4 is  providing additional information on next steps for the consolidation of TPPD No. 180 184, 186, 188, 189, 190, 192, 195, and 239 into Preferential Parking District (No. 320).

This week or the following, staff from the Department of Transportation will be going into the neighborhood to do a “condition diagram” which means they will essentially be mapping all the locations of the existing permit parking signage. The department does not yet have a set timeline on when the replacement of the signs will take place, but they are working to get confirmation ASAP. Once they have a firm timeline, they will be sending out a letter to provide notice to all the affected residents to let them know about the consolidation.

In order to avoid any confusion during this transition period, parking enforcement has temporarily been suspended for the TPPDs in the area. In addition, there should already be a department freeze on issuing permit parking renewals. So if a resident attempts to renew their permit, the system and public counter staff should automatically deny the request. For anyone who renewed their permit prior to this freeze (should be a very limited number of people according to DOT), the department will honor that permit and not require they purchase a new permit once PPD 320 is installed and finalized. Should a resident receive a parking citation in error, they can contact me directly.

Your HHA has requested a meeting with DOT to discuss this process and answer any questions. and CD4  will reach out to the permit parking staff and set up a meeting.

Free Firewise Landscaping Class

Wildfire is a complicated force in Southern California, being simultaneously dangerous, destructive and regenerative. During this episode of Poppy Hour we’ll be joined by two wildfire experts to shed light on this issue: Dr. Jon Keeley, a fire ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, and Henry Herrera, a Forester with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). We’ll take a close look at our local fire ecology, discuss what it’s like on the ground as a fire-fighter, and learn about actions we can all take to create wildfire resilient communities. TPF Nursery Manager, Flora Ito will start the show by sharing a few of her favorite fire adapted plant selections.

Poppy Hour is our California native plant internet mashup. Part interviews, part garden tour, part happy hour, we explore the amazing diversity of people and ideas that connect to Southern California plants and landscapes.
